LA Corps and our PTLAR partners regretfully announces the cancellation of Paddle the LA River this summer 2013

Los Angeles, California--August 8, 2013-- The LA Conservation Corps (LA Corps) has announced that paid trips for the 2013 season of Paddle the LA River will not be available this summer due to a delayed permitting process. The LA Corps has been the designated lead for supervised canoe and kayak trips down a 1.5-mile stretch of the Los Angeles River since the program began in August of 2011.  After running successful, sold-out programs in 2011 and 2012, the LA Corps planned to launch Paddle the LA River for a third year in June 2013; however, an unexpected delay in obtaining the permit has forced the cancellation of the public program this summer.

“We are disappointed not to be able to offer the Paddle the LA River program to the public this summer,” stated LA Conservation Corps Program Director Pablo Cardoso. “We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from the hundreds of Los Angeles residents who have joined us for this unique urban experience over the last two years and we hope to be able to offer the program again next summer.”

The Paddle the LA River program represents the collective efforts of several environmental organizations uniting to enhance public perception about the Los Angeles River.  By paddling this scenic stretch, people experience first-hand that our urban River is part of an ecosystem that is both beautiful and significant to Los Angeles’ past and future.
